Written, produced and directed by Josh Gilbert, a/k/a Tommy Chong is a documentary film that tells the story of the United States of America versus Thomas B Kin Chong, famously known as a member of the tag team comedic film duo, Cheech and Chong.  The documentary examines the incarceration of Chong through a film that offers both terrifying and hilarious moments.

 

“Operation Pipe Dreams” was a $12 million sting operation aimed to bring down notorious drug dealers.  Chong’s home and his business (Chong Glass) were raided and he was sentenced to nine months in federal prison for what amounts to selling ‘bongs’ on the Internet.  Josh Gilbert’s documentary, a/k/a Tommy Chong, attempts to show that Chong was singled out, as he was the only one of 55 defendants detained during the operation to serve time.  He believes that despite having no previous convictions, Chong was place in prison because he was a vocal opponent of the way in which President George Bush handled the War on Terror.
