The Color of Freedom tells controversial story of Nelson Mandela-James Gregory

The biographical, historical drama movie The Color of Freedom stars Joseph Fiennes and Dennis Haysbert.  Fiennes plays James Gregory, a prison guard at Robben Island where Nelson Mandela (Haysbert) is initially detained after his arrest.  The movie, based on the controversial memoirs of the real life James Gregory, is a gripping and pointed introspective about real life people involved in a troubling, but important time in world history – the South African apartheid.  Since the 2007 UK release of the movie The Color of Freedom, much of Gregory’s account of his relationship with Mandela has been called into question.  Mandela, in his own authorized biography of his time in detention, says he actually had very little interaction with Gregory and that much of his account in the movie is grossly exaggerated.  Research following the May 2007 release of the UK version actually suggests another prison guard was more similar to the character James Gregory in the movie, than Gregory himself.  Regardless of the controversy, the movie offers much in the way of bringing humanity to a troubling time.
